Community Outreach Events
Blue Ridge Humane Society loves getting out into the community, connecting with organizations and talking to people about what we do! Whether it be hosting an a donation drive at your organization or tabling at festivals, we greatly appreciate the opportunity to connect with members of our community.
Education Programs
Nurturing the bond between children and animals at a young age encourages empathy and compassion not just for animals but for the entire world around them. We visit schools, libraries, and other organizations offering educational presentations doing just that.
Humane education lessons include the ABC’s of animal sheltering, understanding your pets needs, pet communication, and much more. When you schedule your visit, we will work with you to meet the learning needs of your group.
Adoption Center Tours
Guided tours are available for all ages. We will escort you through our adoption center while sharing information about our history, the animals we care for, and our community programs and services.
Reading to the Rescue!
Reading to the Rescue! is a program that encourages the unique friendship between young readers and Shelter animals. Children between the ages of 7-15 are invited to come out to our Adoption Center and practice reading aloud to our cats or dogs.
Service Learning Experiences
There are many fun and interesting things you can do to help the animals of Blue Ridge Humane Society. These ideas are great for school groups, scout troops, youth organizations, to do with a few friends or to do all on your own. Take a look at our Youth Service page to learn more.
