You’re invited to join Blue Ridge Humane Society and businesses throughout the community as we collaborate to offer fundraising opportunities and fun activities, all supporting BRHS – PAWS FOR A PURPOSE! Together we can build a community that embraces the protection, compassionate care, and the highest quality of life for animals. This event serves as our means of engaging with our community, empowering others to contribute as much or as little as they desire. Collective efforts amount to a significant impact!

Businesses are encouraged to host fundraisers during the weekend of April 12th-14th. Possible fundraisers include donating a percentage of sales during the weekend, hosting a pet supply donation drive, hosting a pint night or yappy hour, or creating a party with activities, raffles, or contests with proceeds benefitting Blue Ridge Humane Society.

Public fundraising events will be shared on this page and on Blue Ridge Humane Society social media pages. Participating businesses will also share plans with their customers and community.

Individuals wishing to host a fundraiser during the Paws for a Purpose weekend are welcome to do so! Team up with a friend to co-host or hold your fundraiser at your favorite restaurant or community clubhouse. Possible fundraisers include a sit-down formal dinner, potluck, block party, brunch, tea party, pet supply drive, and more!

Paws for a Purpose FAQ

Can businesses participate? 

YES, PLEASE! If you own a business and want to participate in Paws for a Purpose, please do! Once again, you can host it however you want! Host a raffle, donate a percentage of sales, have a theme night or ticketed show, or help raise awareness among your patrons that evening and collect donations!

Can an individual host?

Anyone can host or plan an event to benefit BRHS! Plan a party, supply drive, dinner, pot luck or more with your family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors. Create your guest list, invite them to learn more about Blue Ridge Humane Society, and consider donating to support our life-saving work. If you would like to donate “in lieu of” your gift is also appreciated!

What are my expectations as a host?

  • Sign up to participate in Paws for a Purpose to receive event promotion materials.
  • Share your fundraiser with customers, clients, family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers!
  • Host your fundraiser April 12th-14th with your chosen theme and location.
  • Ask your guests to consider making a donation to Blue Ridge Humane Society.
  • Have fun and be as creative with your fundraiser as you like!

How is this a fundraiser?

We ask that hosts share the work that Blue Ridge Humane Society is doing in the community with their guests and that guests donate to the BRHS mission or businesses donate a percentage of sales.

Can I team up with someone to host? 

Of course! You can co-host with a friend or another business and make your fundraiser exactly what you want it to be!

What is provided for hosts?

  • Electronic and physical copies of the Paws for a Purpose flyers to share with your customers and guests.
  • Public fundraisers and events will be listed on the event web page and Facebook event page.
  • Donation collection materials as needed.
  • BRHS branded materials as needed.
  • BRHS staff to answer your questions and offer advice and support!

I’m not comfortable hosting or attending an event, how else can I support Blue Ridge Humane Society?  

Pledge to support Blue Ridge Humane Society at $250 or above! If you want to encourage your friends to support BRHS, we will provide you with those materials to mail or distribute in other ways.
