A Message Regarding Theft at Our Store

Last night, just after midnight, our Thrift Store was broken into. The individual used a long yellow axe to shatter one of the front doors before breaking into two jewelry display cases and taking some of the items inside. The entire incident lasted less than a minute before the individual crawled back out of the broken door and fled.
While we have cameras and an alarm system in place, this did not deter the individual. As a result, the Thrift Store will be closed today while our team works diligently to clean up the damage and ensure the space is safe to reopen.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Thrift Store team, who have been working nonstop this morning cleaning up glass, moving broken shelves, repairing the door, and doing everything possible to get the store back up and running.
When you steal from the Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store, you are not taking from an individual, you are taking from the animals in our community. The funds raised through our store support lifesaving surgeries, provide food for homeless animals, offer free vaccines for pet owners, and so much more. You’re taking from animals like Newt (picture here), who arrived at our Adoption Center just last night, looking for a fresh start.
We recognize that times are tough. The economic strain is affecting many in our community, and as a nonprofit, we feel it too. The cost of supplies for the animals in our care continues to rise, as does the need for the programs we provide. If you or someone you know is struggling to afford necessities, please reach out. We are here to help whether it’s pet food, veterinary assistance, or connecting you with one of the many human services organizations in our community. We are in this together.
If you saw any suspicious activity by 1214 Greenville Highway just after midnight on March 7th, please call the Hendersonville Police Department. The individual had slim build, wore black and white air Jordans, carried a long yellow axe, and will likely be visiting a pawn shop to cash in the items.
