Help Us Cover Muffin’s Medical Bills

Sometimes the most important thing we can give an animal is the time and care needed to understand what they’re facing.
Muffin came to us as a stray from Henderson County Animal Services. Despite her age, she arrived full of love and personality. Her quirky looks and spunky spirit quickly won us over. As part of preparing Muffin for adoption, we scheduled her for a routine spay surgery. During the procedure, Muffin suddenly went into respiratory distress and crashed. The veterinary team acted quickly and was able to revive her, but for her safety the surgery had to be stopped. During that procedure, veterinarians discovered several concerning masses along her mammary chain. We knew right away that Muffin’s journey with Blue Ridge Humane Society would likely be more complex than we first anticipated, and our team began working with her veterinary providers to determine the best path forward for her care.
Last week, Muffin underwent radiographs and bloodwork to help us better understand what she might be facing. Those diagnostics revealed several concerns, including masses along her mammary chain, a mass on her spleen, and disc compression in her lumbar spine. While these findings were difficult, the testing allowed her medical team to better understand what Muffin is facing and begin mapping out the best plan for her care. Her veterinary team has recommended moving forward with a splenectomy and eventually completing her spay surgery. Removing the spleen mass will help us better understand what Muffin is facing and completing the spay will remove hormones that could contribute to the mammary masses progressing. Muffin will also need a future dental procedure to address issues in her mouth that are causing discomfort.
At this point, we do not yet know what Muffin’s outcome will be. What we do know is that she deserves comfort, compassion, and the chance for the best possible path forward. Our team is committed to doing everything we can for her while we continue learning what that path may look like.
A gift today will help offset Muffin’s medical expenses and ensure our team can continue providing the care, diagnostics, and support she needs as we determine the best path forward for her.
Cases like Muffin’s show how often animals arrive in our care at a moment of real uncertainty. What they need most is time, medical care, and people willing to stand beside them while we figure out what comes next.
If you have ever wondered how animals like Muffin receive the care they need, the answer is simple… our community shows up for them. Will you show up for Muffin today?
