Lady’s Full Circle Adoption

Lady Goes Full Circle

Older, light brown dog lays outsideLady was originally adopted from Blue Ridge Humane in 2011 by Elisabeth. Recently we were contacted by Nikki from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department dispatch office about Lady. Her owner, Elisabeth is on their reassurance program so they have been routinely checking in on her. Elisabeth needed medical treatments but wouldn’t leave to go to the doctor until she knew that Lady was safe.

Alli, our Quality Care Manager, spoke to them about recommending they contact Animal Control to do a pickup for Elisabeth since she cannot drive herself. She called Cpl. Vince Griggs, one of the sheriff department’s Animal Control Officers, about the situation and he offered to go pick Lady up himself so she didn’t have to worry about it.

Once Lady landed at the Henderson County Animal Services Center (HCASC), Robin, our Intake and Foster Coordinator, and Alli went to meet with her and immediately could tell how sweet she was despite being so confused. Lady was definitely anxious being back at our Adoption Center but happy to be around people. Just a few days after joining us, Sharon reached out to HCASC about adopting Lady who then connected her to us.

Whitney, our Adoption Program manager, realized she knew Lady and Elisabeth from several years ago when she used to frequent the dog park. Whitney’s in-laws actually kept Lady while her owner had surgery so that Elizabeth could bring Lady home after the recovery but that had been so long ago. She was delighted to hear that Elisabeth and Lady’s relationship had gained so much support within our community and was thrilled to speak to Sharon about Lady’s adoption and figure out how to reunite Lady and Elisabeth.

Sharon is a registered nurse who currently is caring for Elisabeth and was so upset to hear of Lady’s journey from shelter to shelter. She was also very worried for Elisabeth’s health and wanted to do something to help the pair of them. Sharon, like many of us, is a HUGE animal lover and has been that way her whole life. She currently has two other dogs and two cats but felt like she had room for a very special addition… Lady. Sharon wanted to adopt Lady and bring her along to visit Elisabeth while she cares for her. Since Elisabeth may end up in an assisted living facility in the near future, Lady needed to have a permanent home. Sharon didn’t hesitate to fill that role for her and thinks that Elisabeth needs Lady in her life just as much, especially to help her recover. She loves Elisabeth so much and also loved Lady so it was an easy decision on her part!

Sharon adopted Lady and then headed to meet Elisabeth to reunite the two. She plans to get Lady established at her veterinarian and start working on getting her to lose some weight. She plans to send updates frequently and was so grateful that we were able to make this work for them!

Lady’s new home that allows her to still visit and cheer up Elizabeth wouldn’t have happened without the cooperation and communication between the Henderson County Dispatch Office, HCASC, and BRHS. Nikki even kept tabs on Lady through our Instagram page to make sure she found a loving home. We love this Happy Tail, and are grateful that we have such amazing community partnerships that facilitate the many moving pieces for these connections to happen!
