Welcome to our new series featuring the people and pets of Blue Ridge Humane! Today we share the adoption story of Fawn Horton and Eevee, a puppy at the Adoption Center.

Eevee, her mom, and other litter mates ended up in our shelter in June of 2018, two months after I started working at BRHS. We wanted a dog for a while, but didn’t think it would be a good idea living in an apartment. My boyfriend got into a car accident and totaled his car, so one day I told him to come in and look at the new puppies we got to take his mind off of it. As we’re walking around, he spots Eevee sitting in her kennel shaking and it was love at first sight. He held her and that was it – after naming her on the spot he said ‘this is our dog’. Now they are inseparable best friends. She loves to snuggle up with him on cold mornings under the blankets and loves to drag him through mud puddles at Carl Sandburg.

Through quarantine she has been our encouragement to go outside and take in the world around us. She loves to sit and stare into the distance and has taught us how nice it is to do that sometimes – especially with a dog at your side. She watches TV with us and sleeps with her head on our pillows when we go to bed. She will eat anything and everything – except for carrots. She is ridiculously smart and the perfect amount of energy. A couch potato until you say ‘wanna go outside?’ She’s now two years old and the perfect member of our family!
