Foster Friday: Charleen

Foster Friday: Charleen

group of kittens sleepingHappy Foster Friday!

We are SO lucky to have amazing fosters like Charleen! Charleen specializes in “bottle babies” – orphaned kittens that are not yet eating on their own. When we got a call yesterday from Henderson County Animal Services about three chunky 4-week old kittens that had been brought in, as usual, Charleen was quick to volunteer her help. Considering the kittens were so clean and well fed, it’s our guess mom was probably close by. That’s why it’s SO important to watch and wait before bringing kittens into an animal shelter – no one (not even Charleen) can provide better care than mom. However, we are lucky to have fosters that can step in if needed, and we’re so grateful to all our amazing kitten fosters that help out so much this time of year. Here’s what Charleen has to say about fostering:

“I love to foster bottle babies because without a foster they do not have a chance.  It is so rewarding to watch them grow under your care and to know you’re helping them find their forever home!  And no, it’s not hard to let them move on (okay it is, especially early on in your foster adventures) but very quickly someone else needs you.  You quickly realize that your role is to help them leave for their forever homes so you can give someone else the same chance.  Without fosters, they cannot survive.”

We are always looking to add more kitten fosters (especially those able and willing to bottle feed!), so if you would like to join our amazing foster team, don’t hesitate to get started by signing up at the link below! We provide all the supplies and support; you provide the space and love 😻: https://www.blueridgehumane.org/get-involved/foster/
